On January 11, local time in Ethiopia, the completion ceremony of the China-aided African Center for Disease Control and Prevention Headquarters (Phase I) project undertaken by China Civil Engineering Corporation was held in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang and Chairman of the African Union Commission Faki delivered speeches at the completion ceremony and jointly cut the ribbon for the completion of the project. More than 200 people attended the ceremony, including representatives of members of the African Union Commission, head of the Chinese Mission to the African Union and Ambassador Hu Changchun, representatives of African Union ambassadors to Ethiopia, and representatives of local Chinese-funded enterprises. The total construction area of the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention Headquarters (Phase I) project of the African Union is 23,570 square meters, including 2 main office buildings and 2 laboratory buildings. After the completion of the project, it will become the first all-Africa CDC with modern office and experimental conditions and complete facilities on the African continent, further improving the speed of disease prevention, monitoring and emergency response to epidemics in Africa, and enhancing the public health prevention and control system and capabilities in Africa.
Effectively benefiting the African people, this project fully embodies the all-weather strategic cooperative relationship and traditional friendship between China and Pakistan. It will also be an important node of cross-regional interconnection on the "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor", which is of great significance for my country to practice its diplomatic strategy and firmly safeguard international core interests.
